Frustration as Richey awaits decision day
SUPPORTERS campaigning for the release of Death Row Scot Kenny Richey have spoken of their frustration at the lack of movement in his case.
Richey, who was raised in Edinburgh, has been a prisoner in the US for 20 years. He has always protested his innocence, and investigations into the case have found serious flaws in the evidence used to convict him.
He is still waiting to find out the results of an appeal against his conviction.
In a message to Richey's supporters, his former fiancee, Karen Torley, who is still heading the campaign to clear his name, said: "The wait continues for Kenny, which is so frustrating. I told him there have been cases which have been heard after his was heard and they have had a decision.
"I don't know how long it can take them to make their decision, when they have previously ruled in his favour.
"Hopefully the decision will come very soon. Kenny is doing well despite being frustrated with the lack of movement in his case."
Richey has previously said that it could be "weeks, months or years" before the decision is made. While in prison, he has suffered a string of health scares, including a heart attack last August, which was his third in five years.
