One of our most highly respected members, who is a close friend of Billie Allen's has asked us to post his story. Billie is another of our innocent men trapped in the unfair American justice system. Billie is on Federal Death Row in Terre Haute, Indiana. I have seen copies of the lab results personally...MXB
My Story by Billie Allen
On March of 1997, I was arrested and charged with robbing a bank where a security guard was killed. Later I'd be tried, convicted, and then sentenced to death for the crime.
At the trial I had an attorney who was appointed by the court, and while not all court appointed attorneys are bad, I guess it was my turn to get one who was incapable of doing his job. He failed to interview witnesses, investigate the facts of the case, and he failed to present favorable evidence that could've helped me at my trial. because of the things my attorney failed to do, I've spent nine years of my life convicted and sentenced to death for a crime I didn't commit.
One of the problems being innocent is that so many people claim that's what they are, and while I don't know whether those who say they're innocent are innocent or not, it's no secret that not everyone who says they're innocent are indeed innocent.
Because of the countless claims of innocence being raised everyday, it makes it hard for those who are in the position to help the innocent, know who to help.
Over the years I've wrote countless letters to lawyers, anti-death penalty groups, law schools, or anyone who I've heard say or advertise they want to help the innocent, but I have yet to find anyone who would listen. I have some proof of my innocence, and some proof that someone else committed the crime, but nobody has given me the chance to show them what I have.
The proof that I have is proof that any attorney would love to have when defending their client, and the proof I have has helped to exonerate the innocent, but my attorney felt it wasn't important to present it to my jury. What the jury didn't see were the government's own lab results where DNA and other evidence was tested, and the results came back negative when they tried to link that evidence to me.
I'm not asking anyone to take my word that I'm telling the truth about my innocence, and I'm not saying that my case, or my life is more important than the next person. all I've wanted was a chance to show people the proof that I have and after receiving that proof, I want people to determine whether or not I deserve their help.
If after receiving the proof that I'm showing you, you would like to help me bring attention to my case I'd be very grateful for your help.
