Letter from Gary V. Johnson to Malcolm B.
Please Note:Malcolm does not know Gary personally.
Dear Malcolm
I am sorry that it has taken me this long to respond to your letter, but I have been in the middle of filing a brief to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. I had to go over several errors and make sure that everything was the way I had written it up since I do a lot of my own work. Then I have to check behind my attorneys and make sure they have applied the correct law to the proper claims. Trust me, they do make mistakes like that.
I think what you are doing is a good idea and may be just what I need at this point in time. I have two web sites, one in the Netherlands and one in Canada. But each one is different as I sell my paintings when I can on one of them. But I am thankful that you have opened the doors for me to be a part of this site. So allow me to explain things to you.
I have been here 24 years now. I was the 13th man on death row back in 1983. I am innocent of this crime. I have had two trials so far and I have never taken any type of deal even when they were offered. I have had them offered as low as 7 to 25 in 1986. The place robbed was my parent's hotel, which is no longer up and running.
Malcolm, my brother, I thank you for telling me about this site and watching out for my daughter, and for your concern for my wife who as you know is ill.
How is Caroline (Mason) doing? I keep her in my prayers all the time and I hope and pray for her to recover really soon. My wife is blessed to have a friend like Caroline, most people run away and hide when you need them most, but Caroline has been there for her and I am thankful for that.
I have enclosed my "Innocent Fact Sheet" which will give you some updated information on me , as well as my thoughts on the Death penalty here in America, which you will find on the other side. I would be happy to send you another poem but it will have to be in another letter.
I am glad to see that you are ot there making a difference in the world and fighting the fight on behalf of us locked away behind these walls, so many unseen faces and untold stories. When you read my facts sheet you will ask yourself, as I have done so many times, how did I end up in a place like this?
Please let me hear from you as to what you think about it, and if you have any questions or suggestions please let me know them.
Wa-Alaikmus Salaam
Sha'bba/Gary V. Johnson
