Hello all,
Good News! Michael Scott has won a new trial! Over the years, Jeanine Scott, Michaels wife, has continuously fought for justice for Michael. Jeanine is a long standing member of the Austin chapter of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty where she has fought against the death penalty, spoken at rallies and helped organize countless efforts to expose the many injustices of the system. We congratulate her and the hard work of all the Austin CEDPers in helping to keep the pressure on for justice in this case!

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday threw out the murder conviction of Michael Scott, who was sentenced to life in prison for the 1991 murders of four teenage girls in an Austin yogurt shop. The court ordered Scott to be returned to Travis County for a new trial.
The ruling was a second setback for prosecutors. Last year, the same court threw out the only other conviction in the high-profile murder case, ordering a new trial for Robert Burns Springsteen IV, who also was serving a life sentence.
In separate police interviews, Scott and Springsteen confessed to killing the girls and setting fire to the I Can't Believe It's Yogurt
shop on Anderson Lane.
The appeals court ruled that portions of each confession were
improperly introduced to jurors in both trials. But because
Springsteen did not appear in court to testify at Scott's trial, the
court ruled that Scott was denied his constitutional right to
confront his accuser. Springsteen' s conviction was reversed on
similar grounds.
