Do some types of murder warrant the death penalty?

I am 100% against the death penalty, with no exceptions. But I am interested to know if other members believe that certain types of murders or murderers warrant it?

What about someone who is undoubtedly guilty, and has no remorse?

Or someone who has killed before then been released from prison and killed again?

What about child killers? Serial Killers? Lust killers?

Saddam Hussein? Osama bin Laden?

Those involved with the horror of the 9/11 terror attacks?

Other terrorists?

I am against the death penalty because what if the wrong person what didnt kill sombody gets death penalty and then the right person what did gets found and it is too late because the first person is already dead and you cant make them alive again.

You made a very good point Khadijah, once an innocent person is executed it is too late, and it means that one more person has been murdered.

I'm 100% against it for the 'getting it wrong' factor, but if someone volunteers for death, then No, I won't fight it. I have no right to expect them to continue to live for my beliefs when their conscience or their desire to die is there. On separate issues - death is death. You cannot separate the 'category' of victim.

Volunteering for death always seems to me like 'suicide by execution'. I'm completely against the death penalty.

Volunteering for death is 'suicide by execution', you're right. My first conflict came with this issue in 2002, with Aileen Wournos. Because of her menal health issues, she was in solitary confinement and would have remained so, possibly for decades. I'm against the DP, but didn't feel I had the right to say 'ok, it's your life, you want to die, but because I don't agree with what you're doing with your life, am going to try to stop you, and ensure that you spend decades alone.'

She may have been a killer, but she'd also spent her entire life being abused. Removing her right of control from her choice to die - it would have been abusing her further, I felt. The choice was hers, and I had to respect it.

having been in contact with many death row inmates over the years many or most of them guilty they have all said the same thing............they would rather die than spend their lives growing old in prison. Death to these people is not "punishment" it is escape and I wouldnt give them that escape. The victims, their families and the inmates family do not have that escape and all the DP does is create more victims and more guilt


I am sure there are people without remorse but they cannot possibly be totally sane.........I dont believe in LWOP for most people although there are exceptions to that for public saftey.

I see LWOP as a viable alternative to the death penalty for Serial Killers, Sex murderers, Child Killers and others where remorse is not usually a factor, and permanent incarceration is a necessity for public safety.

And as a psychologist who for many years has worked with prison inmates, including all of the above types, I can assure you that there isn't much connexion with remorse and sanity scotkaz.
