Susan Polk Found Guilty of Murder
No one expressed surprise today when a jury returned a guilty verdict of second-degree murder in the trial of Susan Polk for the murder of her therapist husband, Felix Polk. Under California law, "second degree" means the murder was intentional, but not premeditated.
Polk faces up to 16 years in prison for the conviction. Unfortunately, for the woman who decided to act as her own attorney during the trial, she will be sentenced by the same judge that she made more than 100 motions for a mistrial to for "judicial misconduct."
Sadly, the California housewife, who was apparently sexually abused by her then therapist when she was 14 years old and later married him, turned down a previous plea agreement that would have given her three years in prison.
Court TV reported that two of her sons who testified against her during the trial "showed no emotion" when the verdict was read, shortly before noon Pacific Time. One of her sons, under cross examination from his mother, called her "sick" from the witness stand, saying he was not a psychiatrist and did not know the correct diagnosis.
