They still dont want to let you go!!
If any case tells you this it is that of John Spirko's.
4 Delays in his execution is cruel and apalling considering the evidence that is already available.
The State of Ohio has already had over 6 months to test the DNA etc they have in their possesion. DNA they suddenly found after 23 years. If I was a cynic I could say was this politically motivated due to the elections?
Whatever it is, Ohio WILL NEVER ADMIT They are wrong in any case unless they drag it out for as long as they can.
The thing that has helped John force the AG into admiting there was DNA etc after 23 years was getting Ohio media involved and them publishing his case and the media's doubts. The same thing has helped Kenny Richey.
Yes both men are still on the row. BUT both men are still very much aive and able to fight their cases. It is not ideal that both men are still on the Row but where there is life there is hope.
~If it hadnt been for the outrage people have shown in these cases then its a certainty both men would have been executed by now just like John W Byrd who also had evidence of innocence.
So while people might thinK Campaigning does not work IT DOES keep people alive and puts presure on the State to relook at cases.
Joe D'Ambrosio is another case as is Anthony Apanovitch on Ohio's death row. Not one of these men have had a chance to have their evidence looked at.
Ohio has posibbly 15 plus MEN with evidence of innocence sitting on ohio's death row. Ohio has yet to free anyone based on innocence in recent years.
They did in the 70s release a man named Gary Beeman.
The arogance of the Ohio system is that they will not admit the possibility that there are innocent people on their death row.
It has been said that talking about a case publicly does not help. NOT TRUE.
Campaigning for someone you believe in is hard work and it is a long long process spanning many years. It is the same in every country. No one likes to admit they got it wrong. In UK anyone who has ever been freed eventually has spent longer in prison than a guilty man would. That is a fact.
Once some one has been sentenced to death, innocent or not it is an uphill struggle. And not for the faint hearted. If any case shows this it certainly has to be John Spirko's who has already spent 24 years on Ohio's death row and the end does not look in sight even now.
Media, supporters, letters to officials, atorneys are ALL important and none should ever be underestimated.
Anyone who thinks that freedom is a done deal once people are aware of a case is heading for a fall. All the while we are campaigning to show evidence in a case that someone is innocent the State is fighting equally hard to prove they are guilty. And the thing is no mater what the evidence is the state have the conviction therefor the upper hand and they use it to their advantage without a care of innocence. And they do it because they can and this is what we fight in the State of Ohio.
